Novell iFolder & NetStorage overview

Westbrook is offering its network users two types of data file access - NetStorage & iFolder.

NetStorage gives the user direct access to their home directory on the school's server. This allows them to download or upload files as they see fit. All of the files stay on the school's server unless they direct otherwise.

iFolder gives the user the ability to synchronize some of their files on all the computers they use.  The user can access their files manually, as described above for NetStorage, or they can download an iFolder client that will update any changes they make to the server. The user should only use a select number of files as this will synchronize every time they log on or off a computer with the iFolder client installed. However, this is great for that project or letter you are working on.

How does it work? The user needs an Internet connection and an updated Internet browser. If you follow the iFolder connection link on the employee's main page, it will allow you to login to the iFolder server. Once you log in you will find access to both NetStorage and iFolder. For the automatic part of iFolder you will need to install the client on your computer.

For you visitors - this technology is available from Novell for Windows, Linux and Netware servers. Talk to your network administrator.
