District Technology Plan |
Westbrook Schools
believe in Technology for
tomorrow. This requires an on-going
planning process.
That process must include our
integration philosophy,
our
maintenance practices,
our
future goals, and
measurable evaluations.
Technology at Westbrook is an integral part of
education. This year we are actively building our new
three year plan. We hope to have rough draft finished
by the end of the school year. This will allow the
school board to review the plan as they work on their
budget during the summer. After the board's
adjustments we will prepare the plan for submission to
the Texas Education Agency in the 2006-7 school year.
The Technology Department at Westbook ISD believes in
working with the staff and community to develop the
school's technology plan. Our preliminary work on the
school's needs analysis finished in the summer of
2005. We were able to then interview the staff in the
Fall of 2005 about various needs that had been
identified. Changes that could be made within our
current plan and budget were implemented. In February
we started the teacher evaluations of their own
technology use and the schools. Using the STaR Chart
they evaluated each aspect of technology and
technology integration that they work with. This was
our final step in data collection and we are now ready
to begin development on our new technology plan. The
entire Westbrook community is invited to participate.
We will be posting a list of committee members soon
and you are free to contact any of them with ideas or
suggestions. It is our goal to create a technology
plan that helps students learn and prepares them to
succeed in the "real" world. Come home to
Westbrook, Texas! |

Integration Philosophy |
| We also know that the integration of Technology
into the classroom should match the classroom, the
teacher and the students' needs. Technology
integration needs to pass certain tests - One, does it
improve instruction? Two, does it make the teacher's
job easier, quicker or of a higher quality? Three,
does it help the student to learn? Fourth, does it
provide information that will allow better
identification of student difficulties. If it passes
at least one or more of these tests then we must ask -
Does it accomplish this in a
cost effective manner? |

Maintenance Practices |
|
During this review of the Technology
situation here at Westbrook we were struck by the
amount of equipment that was obsolete. In order to
prevent that from ever happening again, we plan on
spreading our purchases out to cover the life of the
equipment in question. For example:
We have three critical servers and their quality of
life is three years. Therefore we will purchase one
per year. In order to be cost efficient, we will use
the older servers for the three servers we have that
are not critical, again rotating out by age.
We intend on having all of our equipment on life cycle
rotations. The desktop computers in the labs will be
on four year rotations, the switches on six year
rotation, teacher computers on four year rotations,
and so on. |

Future Goals
|
|
Our future goals center around
making Westbrook ISD to most technologically advanced
school in a 45 mile radius. |

Measurable Evaluations |
|
We will use the STaR Chart and the
Teacher Technology Points System to provide on-going
evaluations of our plan. |
